Plans underway to construct Sh51bn Bunda-Mwibara road

Mwanza. The government will fund the construction of Bunda-Mwibara road planned to start before the end of this year.
According to the minister for Works, Dr John Magufuli, the road project will cost Sh51.28 billion upon its completion.
“I would like to assure Mwibara constituency MP, Mr Kangi Lugola, that the construction of the road will start soon at the cost of Sh51.28 billion from the government,” said Dr Magufuli, adding that the implementation of the project will start soon after the laying of its foundation stone expected to be graced by President Jakaya Kikwete.
He was speaking recently during the official laying of foundation stone for construction of the Sh888 million Mabatini flyover bridge in Mwanza.
The minister also disclosed that plans were under way to purchase a fast ferryboat that will open the first waterway public transport for residents of Nyegezi, Kirumba and Pasiansi suburbs.
“It will be the first suburban water transport service that is likely to reduce traffic congestion on major roads in Mwanza,” he said.
Earlier, the Mwanza regional commissioner, Mr Evarist Ndikilo, requested the minister to support the upgrading of Makongoro-Airport road to a four-lane way following the increasing traffic flow to and from the airport.
“I have already submitted my request for the expansion of the road as a means to curb the congestion. I am afraid that the situation might turn worse upon the completion of Mwanza Shopping Mall early next year,” said the RC.
According to him, the extension of the road was vital since the under construction shopping mall is designed to accommodate over 600 cars and 2,000 motorcycles at a go once.
