Minister faces jail over forged certificates

Lusaka.A Zambian court yesterday convicted a minister for fraudulently obtaining an accounting diploma, state radio has reported.
Stephen Masumba, who is the country’s Sports deputy minister forged the certificates from the National Institute of Public Administration and later got a job with Lusaka Business College, reported the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.
Lusaka Magistrate Wilfred Muma said in his judgment that “he did not find any truth in Mr Masumba’s testimony” adding that the prosecution had established the case against him.
He adjourned the matter to Wednesday November 20,for sentencing and mitigation, although Mr Masumba was remanded in prison.
Mr Masumba knew that he did not pass in some subjects among them basic accounting, auditing and taxation but went ahead to graduate, the magistrate said.
