Dar es Salaam.NCCR Mageuzi
chairman James Mbatia has asked the Inspector General of Police to
ensure that the Constitution Review Commission Member Dr Sengondo
Mvungi’s laptop and mobile phone are found because they might have
crucial documents.
The items were stolen last Sunday when six gangsters raided the don’s residence located at Kimbamba in the outskirts of the city, injuring him seriously. The assailants also made away with Sh2 million.
Dr Mvungi was flown to a South African hospital yesterday for further treatment after he remained unconscious at Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) for five consecutive days. According to Mr Mbatia, Dr Mvungi who is also the deputy vice chancellor of the University of Bagamoyo and a member of the opposition NCCR Mageuzi National Executive Committee, would receive treatment at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.
The NCCR-Mageuzi chairman further asked the country’s police top boss to speed up investigations and bring the culprits to book.
“We want to know the motive behind that senseless attack and we need to establish why they made away with his mobile phone and computer, said Mr Mbatia.

“His condition is not that much bad because he can breathe without the help of a machine, but we thought he be treated at Milpark because they have more facilities than MOI and their services are quicker,’’ he said.
Mr Mbatia, who has visited MOI to check on Dr Mvungi since he was admitted, thanked well-wishers who called on the patient including President Jakaya Kikwete and Isles First Vice President Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad, political partyand religious leaders.
Dr Mvungi was yesterday accompanied by his MOI physician, Dr Clement Mugisha.
