Cavs have best fan experience
The Cavaliers have always received high marks for the fan experience at Quicken Loans Arena.
More good news is on the way: The total cost for a family of four to attend a game at The Q is $223 — half as much as the NBA average.
NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, analyzed pricing data to rank the NBA’s 30 teams according to the affordability of their 2013-14 home games — and the Cavs came in at No. 1 in the league.
“The Cavs have the most affordable live-game experience of all 30 teams,” NerdWallet analyst Sreekar Jasthi said in a telephone interview from San Francisco. “It’s something (the Cavs) would likely be happy to market, especially with a team on the rise with so many good, young players. I know their season got off to a rocky start, but their future is bright. It’s a nice feather in their cap.”
His findings can be found here.
According to Jasthi’s findings:
-- The average total cost for a family of four to attend an NBA game is $442.28.
-- The Cavs, Pacers, Mavericks, Grizzlies and Spurs offer the most affordable home-game experiences and also present the best values in terms of affordability and projected strength of 2013-14 rosters.
-- The Cavs offer the lowest median ticket price on the resale market ($42) in the NBA.
NerdWallet calculated a “Total Family Cost” for each team’s home game, adding the total price of four tickets purchased on the secondary market, two 16-ounce beers ($9.33 apiece), two 16-ounce sodas ($4.50 apiece), four hot dogs ($5.50) and one parking space ($5). The parking figure doesn’t appear to be accurate. Most lots located near the The Q on game days are between $15 and $20.
The Pacers were second with a total family cost of $262.50, followed by Dallas at $262.67. The New York Knicks were the most expensive at $878.20, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers at $789.20 and the Chicago Bulls at $726.40.
Jasthi said he hasn’t shared his findings with NBA teams, even though a Pacers official recently tweeted a link to his story.
“We haven’t reached out to NBA teams,” Jasthi said. “I thought about doing that.”
